On October 30, the 2nd Military-Civilian Integration-based New Materials & Processes Summit kicked off in Changsha. The theme of the summit was “New Era, New Materials and New Leap”. The summit attracted experts and talents in new materials and processes fields at home and abroad, as well as the first-class enterprises at the upstream and downstream of the industry to thoroughly share the forward-looking innovation achievements, comprehensively understand the industry development trend and promote the convergence and innovative development of the new materials and processes industry.
The summit was jointly directed by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the China Space Foundation, and co-hosted by the People’s Government of Hunan Province and CASIC. The summit involves senior executive seminars and workshops, and consists of one main forum and multiple sub-forums in a number of professional fields. The summit lasted for one day. More than 40 academicians and experts from China, Russia, the United States and Sweden, as well as more than 400 representatives in the field of new materials and processes in China including experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and investors were gathered together at the summit to make joint efforts to promote the rapid development of the new materials and processes industry.
Looking forward to the development trend of new materials and processes fields
At the main forum of the summit held on the morning of October 30, Li Xiaohong, Deputy Mayor of the Municipal People's Government of Changsha, delivered a welcome speech. Chen Fei, Deputy Governor of the People’s Government of Hunan Province, Chen Guoying, Deputy General Manager of CASIC, and Xiang Libin, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered speeches respectively. Xia Mingjiu, a member of Party Committee, attended the summit. Li Lixin, Chief Quality Control Engineer of CASIC, presided over the summit.
In his speech, Chen Guoying pointed out that materials and processes are the foundations for human survival. Every change in materials and processes promotes the development of new and high technologies, the progress of human society and economic prosperity. In the era of agricultural economy, the era of industrial economy, and even the era of information economy that we are moving into, the leaps of civilizations and technologies are manifested at different degrees in the materials used and appropriate processes. In a new era, the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life imposes significant requirements on new materials and processes for the scientific research community and the industrial sector, and spurs the pace of our pursuit of innovation.
Chen Guoying introduced that, in the new journey of building a space power, CASIC thoroughly implemented the national innovation-driven development strategy and the military-civilian integration strategy, adhered to technical innovation, business mode innovation and management innovation, and developed the strategic plan of “Two Targets and Four Steps” for building a world-leading aerospace and defense company and a world-class enterprise. In the plan, new-generation materials and process technologies and their applications are regarded as a major field for promoting the development of new technologies, new industries and new business modes, and providing new kinetic energy for transformation and upgrading of the equipment manufacturing industry. With the industrial structure layout of "N-support backed by academies and institutes", CASIC extensively carried out the multi-dimensional collaborative innovation involving government, manufacturers, universities, research institutes, users, and financial institutions, and focused on fields such as nanometer materials, high-performance fibers, special-functional composite materials, 3D printing materials and materials genome engineering to promote the development of the ecosystem for the new materials and processes industry.
Chen Guoying emphasized that CASIC is willing to join hands with all walks of life to accelerate the construction of an industrial system featuring with the collaborative development of real economy, technical innovation, modern finance and human resources.
In the report session of the main forum, Tu Hailing, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Pan Fusheng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Reznichenko Viacheslav, an academician of Moscow Aviation Institute, Sam Froes, a Professor of University of Idaho and Pei Yuchen, a chief expert of CASIC for advanced materials and technologies delivered keynote speeches on major themes at the systematization and application levels such as progress of advanced technologies (including advanced semiconductor materials and composite materials), development of military-civilian magnesium alloys, key aerospace materials and their industrial transformation prospects.
On the afternoon of October 30, the “Material President Sub-forum”, “Aerospace Materials and Technologies Sub-forum”, “Innovation and Talent Induction Sub-forum” and “Capital-driven and Industry-based” Mass Innovation and Entrepreneurship Shows for New Materials were held. Industry experts, talents and innovation leaders focused on themes of their respective fields and took “innovation, leadership, high end and integration” as the key words to share experience in a profound manner.
Releasing the Action Roadmap for Commercial Development of Space Materials
Following the release of the Commercial Development Plan for Space Materials at the 1st Military-Civilian Integration-based New Materials & Processes Summit in 2017, CASIC released the Action Roadmap for Commercial Development of Space Materials to the society at this summit. At present, CASIC has gathered more than ten domestic units with advantages in the material field to join in the Commercial Development Plan for Space Materials. In the future, we will follow the three-step planning, improve the business development mode for space materials, and jointly promote the development of the space materials industry. CASIC sincerely invites social organizations at home and abroad to join in the commercial development activities for space materials to jointly promote the development of the space materials economy.
At the same time, the signing ceremonies for six projects were held, including the Strategic Cooperation Agreement between Hunan Aerospace and Hengtong Group Co., Ltd. and the Cooperation Agreement between Aerospace Research Institute of Special Material and Process Technology and the Institute of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the unveiling ceremonies were held for Jian Xigao Academician Experts Workstation and Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Equipment and New Materials of Hunan Aerospace and Central South University.
