“If innovation is achievable in one day, then do it every day, and keep doing it constantly.” Revolution and innovation are the treasured instrument which bring to China the remarkable achievements in the 40 years of reform and opening-up. They are also the power pushing CASIC to evolving into an internationally first-class company engaged in aerospace defense and enabling it to compete with other first-class corporations worldwide.
From the missiles named after “Hongqi” and “Changjian”, to the Tiankun satellites launched by Kuaizhou rockets, from the treasure for national defense to CASICloud which changes the ecosystem of manufacturing industry, CASIC never stops on the way of innovation.
Fruitful Achievements of Innovation
The year 2018 came with a great news from State Science and Technology Awarding Meeting held in Beijing: China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Limited won the Special Prize of National Science & Technology Progress Award.
Since the 18th CPC National congress, almost every year, CASIC has been stepping on the podium for the most valuable achievements of science and technology in China. In 2013, the technical team of CASIC won the first National Science and Technology Progress Award for Innovation Teams, becoming one of the first 3 teams offered with this honor. In 2014, CASIC won the Special Prize of National Science & Technology Progress Award. In 2015, CASIC won both the First Prize and the Second Prize of National Science & Technology Progress Award. In 2017, BeiDou-2 Satellite Project was awarded the Special Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award. As the institute responsible for core payload research and development, subordinate unit of CASIC was listed as one of the awarded units.
Winning the awards representing the highest level of scientific and technological innovations in China for continuous years makes CASIC the genuine role model of innovations in the field of national defense-related science and technology industry and among the central enterprises. The outstanding achievements in scientific and technological innovation have witnessed the significant role played by CASIC in serving the country and empowering the military.
The prizes of National Science & Technology Progress Award are the best honor gained by the CASIC for its endless effort in scientific and technological innovations for the years past. However, the effort taken is not just for the honor. It is more for safeguarding our country with unbreakable aerospace strength built by the scientific and technical workers with their skills and creativities.
Be a Pioneer in Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation
“The atmosphere of mass entrepreneurship and innovation in CASIC is very nice. I hope you will waste no time and spare no effort to become the tip of the sword!” Li Keqiang, a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and the premier of the State Council, encouraged the young aerospace “makers” loudly with these words on his visit to CASIC’s Demonstration Base for Entrepreneurship and Innovation on April 27, 2017.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress, CASIC has been practicing the national strategy of “driving development with innovation” and striving to build itself into an innovation-oriented corporation. It keeps working on mass entrepreneurship and innovation by following the working concepts of “two battles, two strategies and two objectives” and taking every effort available to build the new pattern of innovation and entrepreneurship of “information exchange, resource sharing, capacity coordination, opening up and cooperation, as well as mutual benefit and win-win result”.
In 2016, CASIC was selected as the one of the first national demonstration bases for mass entrepreneurship and innovation. Seizing this opportunity, CASIC took the initiative in exploring a distinctive, repeatable and promotable approach of mass entrepreneurship and innovation for mega-corporations. It strives hard as a pioneer and leader in the mass entrepreneurship and innovation of the country.
“Innovation is planted in the gene of aerospace industry in China, and CASIC will always take ‘mass entrepreneurship and innovation’ as a crucial business to pursue.” Gao Hongwei, the Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Chairman of CASIC repeats this in multiple occasions.
Today, the trend of innovation and entrepreneurship is prevailing in every corner of CASIC. Within CASIC, over 2,000 teams are now working vigorously on “entrepreneurship and innovation”. A great number of aerospace makers and scientific & technological innovation teams are shaping the major force of innovative development. The favorable environment for “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” is preliminarily formed inside the corporation and then spreads outwards to the society.
CASIC always believes in the theory of gathering the force of the society to do great things. It is predictable that, in the near future, the extensive investments in innovations will be transferred into real productivity, and that will push CASIC to keep pursuing its contribution to the construction of a powerful country with stronger, faster and bigger stride.
Hold on to the Top of New Tide
In July 2018, CASIC released three major localized information technology products for aerospace, namely Aerospace Super Server, Aerospace Super Database All-in-one Computer and Aerospace Super Storage Array, as well as three small products, namely “Tianyi” Embedded Real-Time Operating System, “HYSylixOS” Embedded Real-Time Operating System and “Kedou” Security Mobile Operating System. These products make up a reliable protective lock on the Internet space gate to national security.
“These products are brought into being by CASIC with its perseverance in self-dependent innovation for serving the national strategy, the national defense construction and the national interest and people’s livelihood. The genuine core technology could never be gained through purchasing, exchange or begging.” Gao Hongwei emphasized this on the product launching meeting.
Innovation also plays an important role during the construction of industrial Internet platform by CASIC. Since the establishment of the platform, CASICloud has been accelerating its progress in research and development of critical core technologies. It has delivered results of the INDICS industrial Internet platform and the industrial big data-based Internet of Things, and it has also applied its technologies in intelligent transformation, big data, platform architecture and other fields. It keeps upgrading the product functions and enhancing the professional competence of CASICloud with technological innovations. The constantly improving experience of application keeps the CASICloud competitive in the market and holds it to the dominating position of industrial Internet development.
As we look back into the past, generations of aerospace workers serve the country with unremitting endeavor in aerospace industry. They are always pursuing better achievements and they are always forging ahead in spite of any difficulty. They has created and been expanding the aerospace industry of the People’s Republic of China. Think more about the past, and we realize what a hard way we have gone through. All the arduous efforts spent to build up, expand and strengthen the aerospace business of China are now leading CASIC to a promising future full of innovations and excellence.
In the report delivered to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, it is stated that innovation is the primary driving force behind development. Nowadays, driving development with innovation is a clarified national strategy. As a backbone force in national defense-related science and technology industry, CASIC follows the trend of the time and persists in the drive of innovation. It takes the initiative in bring forth new ideas and purses the dream of “empowering the army with science and technology and serving the nation with aerospace technology” with its creativity.
