CASIC Delivers Keynote Speech on Innovating Aerospace Technology Application

On the China Space Conference Main Forum on April 24, relevant leader of CASIC delivered a keynote speech titled “Innovating Aerospace Technology Application and Empowering Intelligent Industry Development”.

According to the speech, over years of development, aerospace technologies have bridged the new generation of information technology and the intelligent industry mainly from five aspects “sensing, transmitting, knowing, controlling and using”.

Sensing means that with the high altitude advantage given by aerospace technology, more overall and systematic observation is made possible, which remarkably enriches the geospatial information data. Transmitting means that with wide space coverage, rapid and timely information transmission paths can be built to provide the basis for information transmission. Knowing means that with GNSS technology, the most urgent need of spatiotemporal information for the development of human society can be satisfied. Controlling means that based on the thought of system engineering, system engineering technologies represented by modeling and simulation control can be used as effective tools for closed-loop management and controlling. Using means that ubiquitous communication, navigation and remote sensing information applications have brought convenience to economic construction and social development from multiple dimensions.

According to introduction, with the constant development of aerospace industry, especially commercial aerospace industry of China, China is witnessing more complete spatial data infrastructure and more advanced technical systems and means which can provide information (content) of a higher dimension and accuracy, and more reliable ability to “connect” the heaven and the earth in a larger scope. With innovative applications of aerospace technologies emerging one after another, the intelligent industry will be further empowered.

Under the frame of commercial aerospace, CASIC is aiming at the frontiers of international development and has launched the major commercial aerospace project named “Five Clouds and One Train (Feiyun, Kuaiyun, Xingyun, Hongyun and Tengyun as well as High-speed Flying Train)” to provide the ability for application of new-generation spatial information.

The speech introduced the progress of the commercial aerospace project “Five Clouds + One Train”. In terms of the “Feiyun Project”, research and development of high-altitude solar-powered drones were finished in 2018; autonomous flight test on such drones was carried out several times in 2019 with staged outcomes achieved. Regarding the “Kuaiyun Project”, research and development of scaled prototypes of near-space aerostats have been finished, so has the model following test verification. In respect of the “Xingyun Project”, the “Xingyun-1” satellite was launched in 2017 while the “Xingyun-2” satellite is scheduled to be launched in 2019; additionally, pilot application will also be carried out. The technical verification satellite under the “Hongyun Project” was successfully launched into the orbit in December 2018, making it the first low-orbit broadband communication satellite of China. At present, it is operating stably on the orbit and relevant application tests are conducted. The “Tengyun Project” focuses on the research and development of new-generation space shuttles that can be used repeatedly. The “High-speed Flying Train Project” is the new generation means of transport that is developed based on combination of supersonic flight technology and rail transit technology and has been actively promoted.

According to relevant responsible persons, commercial aerospace industry boosts development of aerospace technologies and empower the intelligent industry which is an important business section of CASIC. At present, CASIC, focusing on research and development in 20 fields including cities, traffic, agriculture, water affairs, forestry and environmental protection, has set up such industry-university research collaboration organizations as Intelligent Industry Alliance, IoT Technology Center, Intelligent Transportation Technology Center, Smart Agriculture Alliance, Intelligent Pipe Network and Pipe Gallery Alliance, forming more than 100 key generic, supporting and application technologies and nearly 360 key products and gaining more than 80 national qualifications. With aerospace technology cities, industrial parks and industrial bases distributed in dozens of cities across China, the ecosystem for development of intelligent industry has been formed initially, which has actively promoted the construction of an intelligent society.
