Exploration never ends in the vast sky. To explore the vast universe is the common dream of all mankind, while to develop aerospace technology for the benefit of human society is the common historical mission in all countries' aerospace circles. At the 53rd Paris Air Show in 2019, CASIC made its grant debut as an enterprise. At the show, CASIC systematically showcased its core projects, products and services developed in recent years in the fields of commercial launch, low-orbit space-based mobile Internet, IOT, small satellite R&D, satellite surveying and operation control and space information application, and conveyed its vision for the future-oriented development of commercial space industry cluster.
"Kuaizhou" Becomes a New Name Card for Commercial Launch
The "Kuaizhou" launch vehicles are mainly targeted at the commercial launch market. They boast the capability of launching satellites below 1 ton into low-Earth orbits, to serve global customers in commercial launch with "low cost, high reliability and high orbit injection accuracy".
At this show, CASIC mainly showcased KZ-1A and KZ-11 solid launch vehicles. As a general-purpose solid launch vehicle mainly for launching 300kg-level small low-orbit satellites, KZ-1A has general international interface and features high flight reliability, high orbit injection accuracy, short preparation period, few support requirements and low launch cost. Currently, it has completed two commercial launch missions and concluded more than 10 intent orders. To meet the requirements of commercial launch service, CASIC has developed KZ-11 launch vehicle with higher carrying capacity, lower launch cost and a sun synchronous orbit carrying capacity of 1,000 kg/700 km. The launch vehicle will have its maiden flight in 2019.
Constructing a Dynamically Integrated Information Ecosystem
At this show, CASIC mainly showcased its low-orbit space-based mobile Internet (Hongyun Project) and low-orbit space-based mobile IoT project (Xingyun Project).
Based on Ka-band broadband satellite communication technology, the low-orbit space-based mobile Internet (Hongyun Project) seeks to construct a global broadband satellite mobile Internet consisting of 156 low-orbit satellites, to provide users with broadband Internet services anytime at anywhere. The first satellite for imaging technique testing was successfully launched into the orbit in December 2018. The in-orbit test on the satellite is progressing smoothly and the application demonstration has been carried out.
Based on L-band narrowband satellite communication technology, the low-orbit space-based mobile IoT project (Xingyun Project) seeks to construct a global narrowband satellite mobile IoT consisting of 80 low-orbit satellites, to provide users with space-based mobile IoT services. It is planned to launch two satellites into orbit and carry out in-orbit test and demonstration application in typical scenes in 2019.
Providing Customers with Commercial Aerospace System Solutions
In addition to the major commercial aerospace engineering products, CASIC also showcased its micro-satellite platforms, satellite surveying and operation control and space information application at this show.
Among the microsatellite platforms, the S series exhibited by CASIC features small volume, light weight, certain orbital transfer capability, and batch launch and in-orbit networking. In terms of load carrying capacity, the microsatellite platform can be divided into two types: 50 kg and 200kg. It can be used for either single batch launch as a main satellite or deployment as a piggyback satellite, taking into account the requirements of low cost and high reliability, and comprehensively enhancing its competitiveness in the commercial space market. The first satellite of the S-200kg satellite platform was successfully launched in March 2017 and is currently in stable in-orbit operation.
In terms of satellite surveying and operation control and space information application, the space-based network ground service platform exhibited by CASIC can provide various space information infrastructures with data services. The platform can get access to various space-based information resources to build an innovative satellite operation mode cored on data service. It integrates all kinds of space-based network resources and data resources, as well as main carriers for storing, managing, processing and distributing space-based data and supporting various on-line and off-line services of the space-based network platform. The space-based network ground service platform has three major characteristics: space-ground integration, integration of integration of communication, navigation and remote sensing, and integration of surveying and operation control. It can be widely used in many intelligent fields such as government affairs, finance, logistics, railway and ocean.
During exhibition, CASIC, together with its affiliated exhibitors, carried out exchange visits and negotiations with international organizations and enterprises such as French Space Agency, Thales Group, Airbus and Sitael to boost international cooperation.
Facing the future, CASIC would like to cooperate sincerely with all sectors of society to actively promote international cooperation in space, rationally develop and utilize space resources, protect the space environment, and continuously devote itself to the innovation and exploration of space technology, thus injecting new impetus into the global economic development, and making new contributions to the application of space technology for the benefit of human society!
