CASIC participated in the 64th International Astronautical Congress

On September 23, the 64th International Astronautical Congress opened in Beijing. As a main force of China's space industry, adhering to the value and idea of developing space technology to bring benefit to human society, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC)actively organized and participated in the thematic reports, paper presentation, conference and exhibition, technical visits, international conferences of members, seminars of aerospace enterprises and other activities to enhance learning and exchange among peers in the world, and fully show the image of China Aerospace, actively expand the international scientific and technological cooperation as well as economic and trade cooperation, and vigorously train international aerospace professional and technical personnel. On the opening day, more than one hundred representatives from the CASIC participated in the congress, and 23 young volunteers served various works of the congress sparing no effort.

In the session of China’s thematic reports, Gao Hongwei, Vice Chairman of the Organizing Committee (China) of the 64th International Astronautical Congress and Chairman of CASIC, made the thematic report of Innovating Development Concept and Promoting Advancement of Space Technology, introducing CASIC’s major contribution to the major national aerospace engineering, and discussed and exchanged the ideas in such field with the participants from the R&D of the reusable space transportation system, development of low-cost and highly-reliable solid carriers, development of micro satellite constellation, development near space resources and promotion of transformation and application of space technological achievements.

Since the end of last year, CASIC had carried out extensive work to collect the papers for the International Astronautical Congress. It submitted a total of 80 abstracts. A total of 29 papers had been adopted, in which, 15 papers would be presented at the congress, involving health management of space station, reusable space transportation system scheme, scheme for impact of small celestial bodies, application of space technology to improvement of urban traffic system, popularization of science of aerospace knowledge to teenagers and others, to broaden ideas and break out into inspiration of innovation during exchange and discussion with the experts and scholars from various countries in the field of aerospace.

During the exhibition activities of the congress, CASIC showed collectively five technical sectors and 35 technological products, highlighting its technical achievements and strengths in the aerospace field. In doing so, CASIC focused on its emergency delivery technology to show its offshore typhoon sounding rocket system. The fully-polarized light-small satellite-borne SAR, infrared detectors for resource satellites and other technical products are representive of the technical sector of earth observation. The technical sector of measurement and control and detection technology consisted of the ever-victorious Radar-1 for recovery in defense of the Shenzhou spacecraft through the blackout zone, the wind profiler radar which has been applied in many regions in the country and can provide real-time detection data and other products. The applications of space technology highlighted the Beidou Vehicle Networking project which can provide full-service for the government, enterprises and drivers based on the country’s Beidou satellite positioning technology.  In the exploration of space technology, the rendezvous and docking microwave radar playing a prominent role in the country’s manned space flight project, combination of high-precision accelerometers and other technological products were unveiled.

In recent years, CASIC has been vigorously implementing the strategy of strengthening enterprises through human resource development, focusing on creating a team of high-tech leading personnel, highly-skilled personnel and composite type scientific and technological management personnel. Now, CASIC has one academician and two communication academicians of International Astronautical Academy of Sciences, one academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and seven academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering. During the preparation, CASIC actively organized the work to recommend the candidates of the academicians and experts of International Astronautical Academy of Sciences. Wei Yiyin, President and director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Third Acadamy of CASIC, has been successfully elected as a communication academician of International Astronautical Academy of Sciences (Division of Engineering Science), and six experts recommended by the Chinese Society of Astronautics have been elected as the first batch of experts of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) Technical Committee.

To further promote technical exchange and cooperation among international peers, CASIC organized and participated in multi-level technical exchange and discussion activities, inviting the officials of International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and relevant experts to CASIC for visit and exchange, organizing the members of the National Committee of CPPCC of CASIC to participate in the international conference of parliamentarians and organizing the representatives of experts to participate in the seminars of the Sino-Germany and Sino-Dutch aerospace companies.

CASIC is the largest development and production unit of guided missile weapons in China, with a full technological development and production system for air-defense missile systems, winged missile systems and ground-ground missile systems. It develops products involved in land, sea, air, space, electromagnetism and other fields. In addition, CASIC is provided with the capability to research and develop solid carrier rockets and space technological products. As a main force of China's space industry, during manned spaceflight, lunar exploration project and other major national construction projects, CASIC focuses on building a space-ground integrated security assurance system. Its microwave measurement radars, γ height control devices, space hospitals, space kitchens and other technological products have been playing an important role.

The responsible person of CASIC said in an interview, facing the future, CASIC will continue to strengthen technological innovation, innovation of business model and management innovation, highlighting the major works in aerospace defense, expanding both information technology and equipment manufacturing, and strive to develop into an international first-class aerospace defense company in 2020. CASIC would like to sincerely cooperate with the international space community in order to make new and greater contributions in exploration of the universe, peaceful use of outer space and application of space technology to benefit human society.
