On December 3, the 4th Forum on Advanced Materials and Technologies kicked off in Changsha. With the theme of "Gathering Wisdom for Advanced Materials to Create a Brilliant Future", the forum was held both online and offline. It brought together the multi-dimensional resources including "government, manufacturers, universities, research institutes, users, and financial institutions" and top forces in the upstream and downstream sectors of full-dimensional advanced materials and technologies, to have in-depth discussions on the development trend of key industries in the field of advanced materials and technologies. The forum provides a broad communication platform for accelerating the practical application of advanced materials and technologies in manufacturing, and promoting the collaborative innovation-driven development of the whole industry chain of advanced materials, and promotes high-quality development of the advanced material industry.
Directed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and supported by the Industry Development and Promotion Center under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the forum was co-hosted by CASIC, the Industry and Information Technology Department of Hunan Province and Changsha Municipal People's Government, and organized by Hunan Aerospace Co., Ltd., the Management Committee of Xiangjiang New Area of Hunan Province and other organizations. The one-day forum was held both online and offline in the form of "one main forum and two sub-forums". Many academicians, experts and leaders in the related fields of advanced materials and technologies delivered keynote speeches. More than 200 industry experts, scholars, entrepreneurs, managers and investors attended the forum with the aim to promote the rapid prosperity and development of the advanced material and technology industry.
At the main forum, major leaders delivered speeches respectively, including Gong Bo, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy General Manager of CASIC, Chen Zhongbo, Deputy Secretary General of the People's Government of Hunan Province and Director of the General Office, and Zhang Zhiyong, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Changsha Municipal People's Congress.
Gong pointed out in his speech that the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee put forward that "China will speed up the development of modern industrial system and promote the optimization and upgrading of the economic system. At the same time, it will continue to take the real economy as the focus of its economic development, unswervingly build itself into a manufacturer of quality and enhance its strength in cyberspace and digital technology, promote the upgrading of the industrial base and the modernization of the industrial chain, improve the economic quality and efficiency and enhance the core competitiveness". To modernize the industry chain and the supply chain and develop strategic emerging industries, it is necessary to take self-reliance in science and technology as the strategic support for national development, boost China's strategic scientific and technological strength, and improve the system and mechanism of scientific and technological innovation.
Gong said that advanced materials and technologies are the material basis and strategic forerunner of economic development, social progress and national security. CASIC will implement the overall requirements of the national major development strategy, give full play to the supporting roles in aerospace, defense and security, focus on its main responsibilities and businesses, and actively cultivate strategic emerging industries and technologies (including advanced materials and technologies) with competitive advantages and market space, to provide strategic guarantee for the development during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period.
He also stressed that CASIC will, from a strategic, global and innovative perspective, take advanced materials and technologies as the major direction to promote the development of new technologies, industries and ecosystem, and bring them into CASIC's strategic development. Based on the industrial structure layout of "N-support backed by academies and institutes", CASIC has actively made plans on advanced industry clusters for coordinated development, actively promoted collaborative innovation of the whole industry chain, and has constantly made progress in ten major areas including materials genome, nanomaterials and metamaterials. As an important industrial sector and supporting technology, advanced materials and technologies will drive the realization of the goal of "building a world-class aerospace defense corporation" as scheduled by virtue of high-quality development of the whole industry chain and breakthrough and innovation of the technology system, and provide strong support for building China into a space power and a manufacturer of quality.
At the main forum, Gan Yong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Fang Daining, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,Yevgeny ? Bretoune, academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Academy of Engineering, and Zhou Kechao, Vice President of Central South University, delivered keynote speeches, respectively, and Zhou Chaohui, Vice President of Changsha Advanced Materials Industrial Research Institute of Hunan Aerospace, made a speech on "Innovation Drives the Development of Advanced Material Industry Clusters". These wonderful speeches all focus on the latest scientific research achievements and development status in the frontier fields including high-quality development of advanced material industry, additive manufacturing, special eco-composites, polymer material technology and high-strength and high-toughness titanium alloy.
During the forum, Sheng Ran, Deputy Director of the Investment Promotion and Cooperation Bureau under the Ningxiang High-tech Industrial Park Management Committee in Changsha, Hunan Province, made a special presentation of Ningxiang High-tech Industrial Park.
On the afternoon of December 3, two sub-forums with the theme of "Functional Materials and Technologies" and "Space Materials and Technologies" were held offline, focusing on the development and application of advanced materials such as high-strength structural materials, high-temperature materials, nanomaterials and metamaterials. 16 experts, scholars and innovative talents in the industry exchanged and shared their views.
The Forum on Advanced Materials and Technologies has been held for 4 consecutive years since 2017. It brings together experts and scholars in the field of advanced materials at home and abroad, and provides a high-end exchange platform for study and discussion on the development direction of the advanced material industry, aiming to make greater contributions to enhancing the concentration of the advanced material and technology industry, further modernizing the industry chain and upgrading the industrial base. It is an important window for comprehensively displaying the latest achievements in the field of advanced materials and technologies, researching technology and industrial development direction, and promoting industry cooperation.

By the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Hunan Aerospace will strive to build itself into a domestic first-class aerospace defense equipment company, a domestic first-class aerospace characteristic advanced material company and a domestic first-class environmental protection equipment technology company, to provide strong support for the construction of major national projects, the development of the national defense science and technology industry and the development of CASIC's strategic emerging industries.
