On December 17, the return capsule of Chang'e-5 successfully returned to Earth, bringing back the country's first lunar samples collected from the extraterrestrial object. This marks the successful completion of the most complicated and technologically challenging space system project in China.
"It is another major achievement in overcoming difficulties by giving full play to the advantages of the new system of pooling national resources and strength, marking a great step forward in China's space industry. This will contribute to deepening the understanding of the origin of the moon and the evolution history of the solar system", General Secretary Xi Jinping said in his congratulatory message.
The complete success of the Chang'e-5 mission is another major achievement of China in strengthening independent innovation, fully demonstrating China's firm confidence, strong determination and unremitting perseverance in pursuing self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology. The Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee identifies self-reliance and self-strengthening in science and technology as being the strategic support to China's national development, and stresses that China will uphold the central role of innovation in its modernization drive.

Independent innovation has always been the spiritual endowment for the vigorous development of China's space industry. In recent years, CASIC has input more than 10% of its annual operating revenues in scientific and technological innovation, and mastered a number of key core technologies with independent intellectual property rights by virtue of independent innovation. Facing the overarching strategy to rejuvenate the Chinese nation and the great changes unseen in a century, as the main force in the development of China's space industry and national defense, CASIC has exactly oriented itself in the new journey, and proposed a three-step strategy of fully building a world-class aerospace defense corporation: By 2025, it will preliminarily build a world-class aerospace defense corporation, and part of the key indicators will reach the world-class standards; by 2035, it will build a world-class aerospace defense corporation, and most of the key indicators will reach the world-class standards; by the middle of this century, it will build a world-class aerospace defense corporation in all respects, and all the key indicators will fully reach the world-class standards.
Facing the upcoming "14th Five-Year Plan", CASIC has established more detailed strategic initiatives and key tasks, as well as more specific goals: during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, take the first place in the share of Chinese missile market, enter the top 300 of Fortune Global 500, get to top five of the world's top 100 military industry enterprises, preliminarily build a world-class aerospace defense corporation, and provide strong support for the sustainable development of the cause of the Party and the country.

To realize these goals, CASIC has established innovation-driven development strategy, quality-based winning strategy, talent-first strategy and digital aerospace strategy under the guidance of the national major development strategy, made unceasing efforts to upgrade the industrial base and modernize the industry chain, and strive to achieve fairer, more sustainable and safer development with better quality and higher efficiency.
In fact, relevant strategic initiatives have begun to empower the development. CASIC has taken an active part in building a digital system of system engineering, exploring the construction of smart industry headquarters, digital final assembly line and flexible intelligent production line, and pushing for a sharp jump in scientific research and production capacity.

At the Party lecture for primary-level Party branches, Yuan Jie profoundly expounded that "profound quality culture, advanced quality concept and scientific quality management system all come from valuable experience gained in the exploration and practice of the aerospace business, and are important cornerstones supporting the high-quality development of weapons and equipment. We should implement the quality-based winning strategy, enhance the "zero defect" quality awareness of all employees, take quality improvement actions, continuously optimize the quality system, and enhance the quality management ability and product quality competitiveness, to ensure the reliability of aerospace products and the applicability of equipment in actual operations".
On the way of pursuing high-quality development, it is always the goal of CASIC to share the achievements of aerospace development with the broad masses of the people. In recent years, CASIC has earnestly fulfilled the social responsibility of central SoEs, implemented 371 targeted poverty alleviation projects with aerospace characteristics, directly sent RMB 64.64 million in poverty alleviation funds, and helped 2 designated poverty-stricken counties (districts), i.e. Dongchuan District of Kunming and Fuyuan County of Qujing, shake off poverty. It has handed over the safe housing projects in Sichuan Province as scheduled, moving more than 8,200 households in Butuo County and 84 poverty-stricken households in the "Cliff Village" of Zhaojue County to into new houses.
