The 21th Plenary Session of China-Luxembourg-Belgium Joint Economic and Trade Committee were held in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on November 22. Fu Ziying, as China International Trade Representative and a Vice Minister of Commerce, led the Chinese delegation attending the meeting. Stronck, Secretary General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg and Van Calster, Director General of Belgian Foreign Affairs have led delegations Luxembourg and Belgium respectively attending the meeting. Wei Yiyin, a member of Party Committee and a vice President of CASIC, was invited to attend the meeting as the representative of Chinese enterprises.
The meeting focused on implementing the agreements reached between the leaders of China and Luxembourg and those between the leaders of China and Belgium, promoting the strategic connection between the “Belt and Road” initiative of China and EU development. They have jointly made productive efforts for infrastructure, economic and trade cooperation, high-tech cooperation, and further mutual open investment, and have yielded fruitful results.
The meeting laid great emphasis on cooperation of China-Luxembourg-Belgium on the space technology and space development. The meeting held that China, Luxembourg and Belgium have their own strengths in manufacturing, launch and operation of satellites and space development, and there are great potential for cooperation. China also stated that it will encourage Chinese enterprises to actively invest in Luxembourg and Belgium. Luxembourg has ranked as China’s third largest investee in the EU, and China has invested a total of US$10 billion in Luxembourg. In addition, the meeting also promoted further pragmatic cooperation in financial services, automotive electronics, smart cities and IoT sensors between the two sides.
The meeting also provided positive and constructive suggestions for further promoting the formulation of the China-EU Investment Agreement.
During the meeting, Wei communicated and exchanged opinions with representatives from Luxembourg and Belgium, and they discussed the feasibility of cooperation in high-tech fields such as space technology and IoT sensors.
As Wei Yixi participates in the Joint Economic and Trade Committee, he will have a meeting with Luxembourg Satellite E regarding potential cooperation project on the 23rd and will hold a high-level meeting with Schneider, Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister on the 24th regarding the cooperation between CASIC and Luxembourg in the field of space.
The next session of China-Luxembourg-Belgium Joint Economic and Trade Committee is scheduled to be held in Beijing, China in 2019.
