On the Summit Forum of Top 500 Chinese Enterprises held on September 2, 2018, China Enterprise Confederation/China Enterprise Directors Association published the list of “Top 500 Chinese Enterprises”. With an operation revenue of RMB 230.28623 billion, CASIC is ranked the 79th in the top 500 Chinese enterprises in 2018.
CASIC is a state-owned, strategic, innovation-oriented high-tech enterprise, formerly known as the Fifth Research Institute of the Ministry of National Defense established in October 1956. It has experienced the following historic evolutions: the Seventh Ministry of Machine Building (the Eighth Ministry of Machine Building was incorporated into the Seventh Ministry of Machine Building in September 1981), the Ministry of Aerospace Industry, the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Industry, China Aerospace Corporation, and finally China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation. China Aerospace Electromechanical Group Corporation was established in July 1999, renamed China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation in July 2001, and renamed China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Limited in November 2017. CASIC is currently composed of the headquarters, 6 research institutes, 17 wholly-owned or holding companies and subordinate units. There are more than 500 enterprises and institutions of CASIC all over China. At present, CASIC has more than 150,000 employees and a large number of well-known experts and scholars, including 8 academicians of CAS and CAE and more than 200 state-level scientific and technological talents. High-quality and young scientific and technical personnel have played a major role in the team of innovative talents.
Based on the enterprise mission of "empowering the army with science and technology and serving the nation with aerospace technology" and the social responsibility value of "your security–our responsibility", CASIC engages in a strategic industry related to national security. It always keeps in mind that "national interest overrides everything". After years of hard work, CASIC has established a complete technology R&D and production system for air defense missile weapon system, aerodynamic missile weapon system, solid launch vehicle and space technology products. Its overall technological level is at a leading position in China, and its technologies of some disciplines have reached the international advanced level, making outstanding contributions to the modernization of China's weapons and equipment. More than 10 types of its missile weapons and support equipment have participated in the military parade for the 70th anniversary of victory of Chinese People's resistance against Japanese aggression and the military parade held to mark PLA 90th birthday, which received high attention at home and abroad. At the same time, the company has broken through the limitation of traditional technological approaches, business patterns and management practices by innovation to vigorously implement the “Five Clouds and One Train” (Feiyun, Kuaiyun, Xingyun, Hongyun, Tengyun and high-speed flying train) commercial aerospace project. All these have opened a new chapter in the development of China's commercial space. In addition, it has successfully completed many major national tasks in relation to aerospace project such as manned space flight and lunar exploration.
Focusing on "generalized defense and extensive security", CASIC keeps following the path of military–civilian integration development with Chinese characteristics, by virtue of technical advantages over the discipline, it has developed a series of military–civilian integrated high-tech products in respect of information technology and security, smart industry, and high-end equipment manufacturing. It has undertaken the "Gold Tax, Gold Card and Gold Shield" project, successfully achieved the large-scale integration and application based on autonomous and controllable new-generation information technology, and devoted itself to serving the national economic construction and national economic and information security with the advantages of aerospace system projects. CASIC has developed a variety of public platforms for smart industries (smart city, smart transportation, smart utility network, smart food and drug supervision, smart agriculture, smart water service, etc.) to vigorously support the construction of digital China and smart society. Its self-developed special Olympic torch for Mount Everest, low-altitude low-speed small target detecting and intercepting system, high-power laser, series of heavy and special equipment and many other products have broken the monopoly of foreign countries and realized import substitution. It has been striving to develop an industrial Internet cloud platform with independent intellectual property and its application ecology, so as to provide smart, collaborative and cloud manufacturing-related public services for China's manufacturing enterprises. As one of the first batch of “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” demonstration bases in the country, CASIC strongly supports its employees to carry out on-the-job entrepreneurship and innovation, and gathers social enterprises and projects featuring “mass entrepreneurship and innovation”, to create a new ecosystem for development of sharing economy.
Based on the goal of building “a world-leading aerospace and defense company”, CASIC actively implements the concept of the “Belt and Road Initiative”, and cooperates with international partners to carry out a series of international business projects in countries in Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, West Asia, Europe and Africa through strategic cooperation, and overseas mergers and acquisitions to contribute our space intelligence and strength to promoting the global economic development and the building of a community of common destiny for mankind.
In recent years, CASIC has thoroughly implemented the new development concept, has adhered to the spirit of “perseverance, innovation, considering the overall situation, collaboration, hardworking and contribution competition”, and has made unremitting efforts to promote the healthy and rapid development. It has been ranked Grade A for 11 consecutive years in the assessment for operating performance of heads of central enterprises published by SASAC, won the “Award for Enterprise with Excellent Performance” and the “Award for Enterprise with Scientific and Technological Innovation” for 3 consecutive terms as well as 5 Special Prizes in the National Award for Science and Technology Progress and multiple National Awards for Science and Technology Progress, and ranked 346th, 79th and 45th in the lists of Fortune Global 500, Top 500 Enterprises of China and Top 500 Most Valuable Brands of China respectively.
